Baby Sign Language Grows in Popularity

Just a few years ago baby sign language seemed like a novelty. Now signing has become mainstream. Studies have shown how simultaneously learning two spoken languages at first delays talking. But research also shows that teaching baby sign language can help toddlers talk sooner and maybe slightly boost their IQ.

I do sign language with my daughter. I have been doing it since she was 4 months old! And believe it or not. By 5 months she could tell me when she wanted "milk". I think it's great! I also don't think it hinders them from speaking. It is just another great way to communicate when they can't get the words out!

I love sign language! right now i'm learning how to sign with my baby on MindBites: http://www.mindbites.com/person/84-MySmartHands

The author's name is Laura Berg and she teaches baby sign language classes (you can sign up online, google search: Mysmarthands) as well as how to make your own baby sign language flash cards. I'm loving her baby sign language video on dictionary terms and I hope she comes out with a DVD soon!
