Baby Blackberry

There's good news for parents who are tired of having their toddlers getting their grubby little paws on their BlackBerrys and other smartphones while they're not looking.

Leapfrog has announced a product called the Text & Learn or - as it's sure to be known in the blogsphere - the "baby BlackBerry."

Now kids can mimic their parents and send text messages and check their schedules at all hours of the day. The device, which is a bit bigger than your average BlackBerry, is geared toward preschoolers who are just learning to spell and includes games that focus on spelling and basic computer skills.

Hmm. I wonder how a QWERTY keyboard fits in with learning one's ABC's in order."

lol

Are we going overboard here? I mean, I LOVE leapfrog...and I could see some use for this on road trips and what not.. but just a look at my 12 y/o nephew hibernating in front of his nintendo ds and I worry about my kids. I know they all get into this stuff... I just hope my children don't become addicted to it and realize what it means to spend an entire day out riding bikes and running the neighborhood.

I hate to tell them but kids never want a toy they always want the real phone and nothing but the real phone. So it might last for 5 minutes but you will still have the same problem as before. lol
