Maternity Leave Good for Mom, Baby

Taking many months of maternity leave improves the health of working women and their babies, two new studies report. But the authors say such leaves are distressingly uncommon in the United States.

yeah, the paid leave in NY is paid for by the employee... everyone who works has a state deduction for state unemployment insurance/state disability insurance. And the leave pay sucks! It was 1/2 of my salary up to a certain amount... that amt wasn't a third of my take home pay at it was for 6 - 8 wks (not including the first week off, kicks in after a week of sick leave, so really only 5-7wks) depending on the delivery. but at least it was something.

I took 10 months off after my first and it was the best decision I ever made! I went back part time... and then took 3 months unpaid after my second... went back part time (very part time). Part time is great if you can swing it! but it's tough here... especially with this economy.
