The Perils of Parenting in the White House

Consider the perils of parenting in the White House.

There is a movie theater, a bowling alley, a horseshoe pit, a swimming pool, five full-time chefs and dozens of household staff members ready to dish up ice cream at all hours. There are trips to foreign lands, dinners with kings and celebrities, swarming paparazzi and blaring motorcades, all with the potential to transform sweet little children into bossy, self-important ones. (Or lonely, dysfunctional ones.)

What are presidential parents to do?

Lay down the law, according to the newest parental unit in the executive mansion. President Obama and his wife, Michelle, might not be in Chicago anymore, but they say the old rules still apply when it comes to their daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.

Twittering During Birth

Erykah Badu gave birth to a baby girl over the weekend — and twittered about it. If you use Twitter, search for username "fatbellybella."

Universal Motown Records Group, the singer's record label, says the baby was born Sunday and both mother and daughter "are doing fine." The father is Badu's boyfriend, rapper Jay Electronica.

Badu said she had a home birth that lasted about five hours and that she didn't use painkillers.

Lisa Bonet Welcomes Baby Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa

Former Cosby star Lisa Bonet and her husband Jason Momoa welcomed their second baby, a boy named Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

An article from Us Weekly explained that the unusual name is a tribute to the father's Hawaiian heritage. Nakoa means warrior and Manakauapo is a combination of mana (spirit/strength), kaua (rain), and po (dark). He was born on the stormiest, rainy night, so the name is fitting.

Ana Ortiz Expecting

People magazine is reporting that Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz is pregnant with her first child. Ortiz, 37, and her husband Noah Lebenzon, the guitarist for the band Half Life, are expecting the baby at the end of July.

"They are thrilled and ecstatic," says a friend of the New York City-based couple. "They can't wait to be parents."

Garner, Affleck Have New Baby Girl

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are parents to a second girl. The new addition joins big sister, three-year-old Violet. Apparently the celebrity duo is shunning the trendy Hollywood name trend and leaning toward something more traditional.

Baby Time for Tim Allen

Actor Tim Allen is going to be a dad once again. The 55-year-old Home Improvement star’s wife, Jane Hajduk, is pregnant. The baby is expected to arrive in the spring.

Allen’s rep confirmed the news to People, saying, “Tim and Jane are ecstatic about the upcoming birth of their first child together.”

Twin Girls for Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell

Fraternal twin daughters Dolly Rebecca Rose O’Connell and Charlie Tamara Tulip O’Connell arrived on Sunday, December 28th in California to mom and dad, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell.

“Mother, father and both girls are all home and doing well,” rep Lewis Kay shares. Dolly is in honor of Dolly Parton, while Charlie is assumed to be for Jerry’s brother and Tamara for Rebecca’s sister.

Cameras spotted a very pregnant Garner and Affleck arriving at a Los Angeles area hospital today. No word yet on whether the family is ready to welcome a little brother or sister for their 3-year-old daughter Violet.

Armstrong's New Baby Conceived Naturally

Lance Armstrong may be busy baby-sitting between two major races next year. Armstrong, who won the Tour de France seven consecutive years after overcoming testicular cancer, and his girlfriend, Anna Hansen, are expecting a baby in June.

A spokeswoman for the Lance Armstrong Foundation says that the baby was conceived naturally. Armstrong had three children with his ex-wife, Kristin, using in vitro fertilization with sperm he had banked before undergoing chemotherapy.
