Wacky Product Alert: Robotic Baby Crib

The Suima crib, developed at Kyuushuu University in Japan, is designed to rock your baby to sleep if it wakes up crying. It does this by sensing cries using a microphone. When detected, the crib starts to sway side to side every 1.8 seconds, or about as fast as a parent's heartbeat.

Apparently, this speed helps lull the infant back to sleep quickly. The video below proves it.

The crib is available for rent in Japan for about $100 per month, or you could buy one for between $4,500 and $5,500.

Blog Hopping: WE'RE Not Pregnant, I AM!

By Marisa Lufkin
BBA Contributor

I have never understood why couples use the term "we're pregnant." The last time I checked, I was the one with swollen ankles, a sore back and stretch marks. Ok, my husband shared my insatiable hunger but that is about the only link we shared.

I was fortunate to have a caring and loving husband who never let me carry anything heavy, made sure I got plenty of rest and ran out to the store each time I asked for a bowl of ice cream. But, we were not pregnant, I WAS!

When it came time to deliver our daughter, my husband became my pillar of strength. He stood by the hospital bed, held my hand and told me how proud he was. He was beside me during the c-section and watched the miracle of our daughter's birth. He rarely left my side during my prolonged hospital stay. His support continues to this day as we raise our child.

"WE" conceived a baby. "WE" are working together to provide our child with a safe and loving home. "WE" do a lot together. But, "I" was the pregnant one. And make no mistake, "I" was the one who gave birth!

Blog Hopping: Toilet Fun

By Diana Stacey
BBA Contributor

Something happened tonight that is so funny and gross I just have to share it. We were having our "Game Night" like normal and when we do, Davis gets to play his games on the PlayStation while we play Rockband or Little Big Planet on the PS3.

Anyway, Davis is still going through the whole potty training thing. He just gets so busy doing something fun we have to make him stop and go potty. Well tonight was no different, so I sent him in to the bathroom to make sure he didn't have a accident. I peeked in on him because he was taking a little too long and what do you think I found?!? Well, I found Davis with his head IN THE TOILET! He actually had his head in the bowl and when I asked him what he was doing he rubbed his nose and I noticed it was wet. He had put his head so far in that his face got wet in the PEE WATER!!!!

What was my child doing you ask? Well the only thing I can figure is he was trying to blow the bubbles in the toliet to get rid of them (he loves bubbles). Now I feel like it isn't safe to leave him alone in the bathroom anymore! And yes I washed his face and hands REALLY, REALLY WELL!!!!! Oh the little thrills of being a parent!

Father Names Newborn 'Sarah McCain Palin'

Mark Ciptak says he went behind his wife's back and listed their newborn daughter's name as "Sarah McCain Palin" on her birth-certificate application because "we are strong supporters of that ticket," according to the Kingsport Times-News in Tennessee.

"She wanted Ava Grace. So, with a clear conscience, even though I know I was sort of going around her back, I kind of secretively put down Sarah McCain Palin instead of Ava Grace on another set of forms that I acquired from the front desk," he tells WBIR-TV. "And as we were walking out of the hospital, I went ahead and gave those to the nurse."

Ciptak says told his wife about the switch the next day, while they were at the doctor's office. He says she was speechless. "I felt a lot of cold air coming from her way," Ciptak tells the station. (via USA Today)

Blog Hopping: Drama Queen

By Aimee Ash
BBA Contributor/Mother of Twin Drama Queens

One of the first questions people ask about my one-year-old twin girls is if their personalities alike. The truth is, I'm not sure they could be more different. Lilly is most definitely our diva and has been since birth. Her "fake cough" came when I had a cough and I was noticing that she was faking a sympathy cough. Her grandma started asking how her cough was and this video is what it has turned into. My husband fears this dramatic streak will only get worse as she gets older.

Blog: Humor for Moms

LAPD Wife has a list of funny things relating to babies, including preparing for birth, worries, pacifier, diapering, going out and swallowing coins. Each topic shows how things change from the first child to the third. For instance...

Worries:

1st baby: At the first sign of distress - a whimper, a frown - you pick up the baby.
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your three-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Funny Stuff - #1 Hit From The Day You Were Born & Ad For Very Creative Babysitting Position

While blog hopping on my friends' baby blogs, I came across two funny things on Bridget's (Thanks, Bridget):

:: Look up the #1 hit from the day you were born... right here. Just select your birth month, then day, then year. Try it for your whole family, especially your children. Mine was "Shake Your Booty" by K.C. and the Sunshine Band. My son's was "Gold Digger" by Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx.

:: An ad on the NYU Career Net per today's New York Post.... " Wanted. A student to baby-sit from 6-8a.m. Given the unusual hours, we will consider even someone who can come only one or two days a week. Mom is an NYU professor. Dad a sportswriter. We offer an easygoing environment, a great kid (high-energy 3 1/2 year old son) who, unlike his parents, is a very early riser."

Video: Rejected Olympic Sport

Every family has their own idea of backyard fun, but we've never seen fun quite like this. Toddler Tossing could be the next big thing. Or not.

Trade: Baby's Name for $100 Gas Card

A man right up the road from BBA headquarters traded his son's name for a $100 gas card. A local radio station offered the free gas to the listener with the most interesting item to trade. David Partin of Orlando, Florida stepped forward with his offer and hosts Richard Dixon and J. Willoughby took Partin's deal. The name? Dixon and Willoughby Partin. Nice.
