The Great Diaper Debate: Disposable or Cloth?
When it comes to infant care, choosing disposable or cloth diapers can be a loaded decision, no pun intended. Online parenting chat rooms are filled with heated debate over the merits and drawbacks of both choices...
Do you have experience with cloth diapers? If so, do you have a favorite brand? Let us know in the comments section here and/or send us an email. We'd love to share your opinions on BBA with other parents considering cloth diapers.

We tried Fuzzi Bunz... I liked them. Libby just has such a sensitive toosh that we couldn't use them 100% (I think it was more an issue with the W/D in the house we're in right now... I hope to try them out with Logan when he's big enough for the size we have). They are bulkier which for Libby helped us (she's so tiny). They were easy to keep up with, I just bought a garbage can with a lid to soak them in during the day until I washed them at bedtime. I do at least a load a day anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. A friend has so many that she can go 3 days without washing... she's addicted! She loves to shop for different styles and cute patterns. There's so much to choose from. I'm hoping when we get our W/D hooked up in our next home that we can use them again. And even if it doesn't work out, they pretty much resale for close to the cost of new ones. Great resale value. ;)
We're using cloth for Sophie. I started with BumGenius, which I know a lot of people love. They are the closest you'll get to a disposable style with velcro tabs, etc. But since we have a front loader, it makes laundering diapers a little more challenging (front loaders use less water, so clothing/diapers are never completely submersed in water for any lenghty period of time). We found that we had odor issues with the BumGenius even after we washed them. I understand this is more common with synthetic fabrics than with natural ones. I sold all of them on diaperswappers.com for only $2 less than I purchased them (I originally paid ~$18 for each). Now we are using hemp, which has natural odor-fighting and anti-bacterial properties. They are made by Crickett's (www.crickettsdiapers.com), and I LOVE them. They need a cover, which isn't a big deal, and you can really go crazy with colors and patterns. I also use the prefolds when we are home--those are the ones our mothers and grandmothers used). I did use some Fuzzibunz that a friend lent to me. I liked them, too, but I rather stick with one type--so as not to confuse the hubby tooo much! I have enough diapers to wash every 2-3 days, and I just put them in a diaper pail that looks like a trash can with a lid. They only smell towards the end of the second day, and only if you actually open the pail.

We are lucky enough to have a cloth-diaper service nearby... absoluety LOVE it! It costs about the same (slightly less) than disposable diapers, but it's nice to know we are not adding a heap to the landfill ;) They are prefold, cotton and require a cover, but so easy to use. And I've noticed my little one tends to not go potty while she sleeps (naps)--assuming she doesn't want to feel wet--so maybe we'll have an early potty-trainer on our hands!
we use gdiapers with cloth inserts- they have cloth covers with velcro tabs and a non-plastic waterproof liner. they sell flushable liners also, which we use occasionally- but typically use cloth pre-folds for the liners and clean them very similarly to "bridget". the gdiaper people are very friendly- when you call with a question about fit or sizing- you talk to a real person- usually on the first ring. you can check out their website- gdiaper.com and there is a yahoo group for gdiaper users.
